To avoid too much countryness, we decided to spend the weekend in the City...strolling, eating Chinese food, listening to music. Do I need more?Mhhh...no actually I don't.

North and South Beaches

Finally good weather and finally outdoors... On Saturday we decided to give Wildwood State Park another chance - last time it was really too windy to enjoy the walk. This Park on the North Shore is easily accessible and just a fifteen minute drive from our home, which is very convenient (no complaints in the car is always very relaxing). We were hoping to use the boat ramp like we did the first time and then walk along the shore, but this time it was closed to public (to the public who doesn't want to climb on the fence) so we took the shortest of the four trails - marked in red - and walked through the beech forest for 1,8 miles. For the blue trail (2,9 miles), the orange trail (2,3 miles) and the yellow trail (3,8 miles) you need to organize food and drinks, unless you want to hear "Are we there yet?" more than hour long. Cutchogue - a Dive Into History

After writing a post about the beaches , I knew there was a part of me that wasn't completely satisfied. Truth is that I am a very curious person and my first time in Cutchogue was NOT driven by the search for a nice beach. That just happened. In fact, what I was looking for were the rests of an old ruin, namely that of Fort Corchaug: the gathering place for the Corchaug, one of the Algonquian tribes, which lived on Long Island before the English settlers set foot in the East End (in the mid 17th Century) and which was decimated either by weapons or disease. Even though I am not an expert, I find Native American history very fascinating. Sure it has been a succession of genocide and killings in the past. And in the present it is characterized by a difficult struggle in order to keep alive minorities with their traditions and laws, without creating a group of individuals isolated from a society that - in turn - doesn't recognize nor respect these traditions and ...

CMEE Children's Museum of the East End

As a Bnl employee's spouse I take part in some activities connected with the Lab, mainly a playgroup where my kids meet children their age and with a similar background. The playgroup has a designated meeting place but sometimes moms and kids would meet outside, or decide on some specific activity. Bottom line, because of the kids I get to go to places I would not dream of going to - or I wouldn't be allowed in. One of these is the CMEE, the Children's Museum of the East End in Bridgehampton, designed by Lee Skolnick Architecture + Design Partnership . What an amazing place! On a beautifully arranged mix of interactive spaces  children can dress up as princesses or pirates, explore the interior of a submarine, fish, play in the ice-cream parlor, sit in the library, exercise or do crafts.
